Fishing metaphors

went fishing this weekend for the first time in 15 years.

As I was sitting there watching the sinker for signs of a bite I thought to myself, this is a really good metaphor (if not cliche) for B2B outbound.

I managed to catch a few small fish throughout the day using grubs as bait but I really struggled with anything bigger.

Turns out my lack of experience was showing...

And when I spoke with a local expert he showed me that my whole set up was wrong.

The wrong sinker, wrong depth & wrong bait.

Thats why I was struggling to catch anything bigger.

They weren't interested in what I had to offer.

I found it funny as this is what I preach to prospects.

Your whole set up is wrong so the bigger fish don't want to work with you.

Your messaging is bad, your offer is nonexistent, you don't have an online presence.

So you get no bites.

Then you blame the tools you set up on the failure.

If only you'd listened to an expert.
